Child and Family Programs Coordinator

We are currently seeking a capable and committed. Child and Family Programs Coordinator.  This position includes two primary mandates.  The first is to Manage our Quadra Village Community Childcare (School Aged Care) program and the second is to facilitate and coordinate our Parent/Tot Programs.

• Out of School Care/Camp Manager
• Early Years Programs Coordination/Outreach 


Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Coordinating and implementing all aspects of QVCC’s School-aged Care programs (including Licensed Care and Daycamps ) and ensuring excellence in the quality of care and programming.  This includes ensuring the Quadra Village Community Childcare program is in compliance with the BC Childcare Licensing Regulation
2. Providing support and direct care (in Licensed Care) to children, encouraging their intellectual, physical and emotional growth
3. Acting as key liaison with parents, caregivers, schools and relevant agencies 
4. Scheduling and supervision related to Licensed Care, Daycamp and early years program staff, practicum students and volunteers
5. Ensuring the meaningful participation of parents/caregivers and children in Parent-Tot Drop-in and other early years program activities
6. Planning and setting up daily developmentally appropriate and effective activities for program participants
7. Maintaining fluency in the Childcare Licencing Regulation and Family Resource Programs of BC practice standards / other preferred practices and shape programs accordingly
8. Coordination of enrolment, payment and subsidy in child care programs  
9. Assisting parents/caregivers with parenting, child development knowledge and other life issues and provide support referrals, assistance with forms and system navigation as necessary  
10. Identifying and supporting program participants who are having challenges and work with them or their parents on useful skills through modeling, mentoring, teachable moments and supportive conversations
11. Planning and implementing referrals and initiatives to enhance the self-esteem of parents/caregivers by helping them meet new friends, reduce isolation and get parents involved in community resources/opportunities and learning new skills
12. Creating and providing clear and accessible schedules for programs
13. Ensuring emergency procedures are up to date and that staff are familiar and practiced with them
14. Refining and updating the parent handbook, policy and procedures, website, pamphlets and related documents. and that licensing and/or caregivers and/or staff are given adequate notice to keep informed of changes
15. Advertising and promoting the program
16. Maintaining awareness of participant feedback and integrating constructive feedback in practice/programs
17. Ensuring that the program environments are clean, safe, suitable, caring, respectful and inclusive
18. Responding to general inquiries regarding Downtown Blanshard Advisory Committee (DBAC)/Quadra Village Community Centre (QVCC) and sharing in the work of operating and maintaining  a respectful, inclusive, functional  and useful community centre
19. To be familiar with and implement the QVCC/DBAC policies, procedures and practices
20. To ensure the maintenance and tabulation of attendance and statistics regarding parent/tot drop-in, kindergym, Out of School Care, Daycamp and other programs as assigned and generate quarterly and other reports related to those program areas
21. To make regular written and verbal reports as required by the supervisor and/or Executive Director
22. Transport children as appropriate and ensure that applicable log books are kept and the vehicle is clean and well maintained
23. Perform other related duties when required and approved by the supervisor and/or Executive Director

• High School graduate and post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Early Childcare) and/or extensive training in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Early Childcare or Equivalent
• Minimum two years’ experience supervising, facilitating activities and working with children Birth-12 years of age with a wide range of developmental needs and challenges
• Minimum 1 year relevant experience working directly with parents, caregivers or other adults
• Minimum 1 year program supervision and administrative experience
• Effective with basic computer applications (such as word processing, spreadsheets and internet usage), record keeping skills (for reporting, human resources and marketing) and organization and planning skills
• Criminal Record Check, Standard First Aid, Food Safe, Class 4 Drivers’ License and all Childcare Licensing Requirements.

Hours of Work:        
35 hours a week including full days on all school closure days in School District 61, with exception to statutory holidays and planned program closures (usually the week of Christmas). 
*On-call for staff illness, checking in with staff by phone on an as needed basis. Available by cell phone to both staff and parents. 

Wage and Benefits:

$22.00 an hour  plus 6% vacation. Extended health benefits and matching RRSP eligibility upon the completion of a probationary period.
